Step 7:Obtain Visa Verification (If applicable)

Since September 2003, the IIRIRA of 1996 became effective. This rule states that all immigrants and non-immigrants who are coming to the United States primarily to work as healthcare workers need to submit a healthcare worker certification.

The U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS) granted the NBCOT® the approval to issue healthcare worker certificates to individuals traveling to the United States to practice in the field of OT. That’s why, the NBCOT manages a Visa Credential Verification Certificate (VCVC) process. Applicants must successfully complete the VCVC process in order to get the VCVC certificate before moving to the next step.

Note: If you have the U.S. citizenship or a hold a green card, you will skip this step!
